Launched at the end of 2021 in four municipalities of the Besòs basin, the VESTA project was created to support women experiencing homelessness who are caring for children. This research is part of the commitment of the involved public administrations and organizations to analyze the policies and social intervention strategies aimed at single-mother households experiencing homelessness. In this regard, the aim of the research is to guide the development of the project by identifying its innovations and assessing its potential for expansion and replication. To meet this challenge, the qualitative research defines three objectives:
-
Identify the factors that facilitate the recovery of single-mother households experiencing homelessness who are supported by social services.
-
Identify processes for improving the professional practice of those involved in the social support of single-mother families experiencing homelessness, as well as the factors that enable or hinder such improvement.
-
Identify processes for improving the governance of social care for single-mother households, and the factors that enable or hinder such improvement.
The participating public administrations and organizations are the Besòs Consortium, the City Councils of Badalona, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Sant Adrià de Besòs, and Montcada i Reixac, along with third sector organizations Cáritas Diocesana de Barcelona, Fundació Formació i Treball, Fundació Mambré, and Sant Joan de Déu Serveis Socials Barcelona.
