This research project is a comprehensive study on the first two editions of the Pla de Barris created and developed by Barcelona City Council between 2017 and 2024. This neighbourhood improvement programme aims to reduce urban inequalities between Barcelona neighbourhoods. As outcomes, six reports have been produced from a quantitative and qualitative perspective analysing key aspects to gaining a better understanding of the effects that the Pla de Barris has had on the population and the neighbourhoods targeted by the programme.

First, from a quantitative perspective, a framework analysis was conducted focusing on the phenomenon addressed by the Pla de Barris: urban vulnerability, understood as a complex phenomenon influenced by multiple factors that go beyond neighborhood and even municipal boundaries. A second focus of the evaluation process has been the study of the scope of the actions implemented within the program, also from a quantitative perspective and detailed in two reports. Finally, the last part of the evaluation has been dedicated to analyzing the effects of the Pla de Barris on the population and the community network of the affected neighborhoods, using a mixed-method approach that integrates both quantitative and qualitative analysis. All of this has helped provide a multifaceted and comprehensive view of the impact of the Pla de Barris initiatives.

You can download the documents from the different thematic areas below:

1. Supra-neighborhood factors and residential location patterns influencing the evolution of urban vulnerability.

2. Scope of actions: beneficiaries of the implemented measures and resources integrated into the social infrastructure of the beneficiary neighborhoods and services.

3. Effects of the Pla de Barris on the population and the community network of the intervened neighborhoods.
