The Neighbourhood Relations and Conviviality Survey of the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (ECAMB) aims to gather information on the state of neighbourhood relations and cohabitation in metropolitan districts. Since 2018, ECAMB has been conducted biennially, following a pilot survey carried out in 2017.

The monographic report on discrimination, based on ECAMB 2024, includes representative indicators on the prevalence of discrimination among the metropolitan population, allowing for the characterization of discriminatory episodes. Specifically, it investigates the reason for the discrimination, which may include skin colour, ethnicity or country of origin; sexual orientation or gender identity; being a woman; political beliefs; religious beliefs; habitual language; age; chronic illnesses or disabilities; and other reasons, allowing the respondent to specify them. Participants are also asked to select the most serious or significant episode for them and answer a series of questions to identify the type of discriminatory behaviour experienced, the discriminatory agent, the place where the discrimination occurred, the emotional impact, whether the episode was reported, and the reasons for not reporting it, if applicable.

In order to improve the understanding of the discrimination experienced by certain groups in the metropolitan area, this year ECAMB advances the analysis of intersectionality by including self-identification categories agreed upon with communities in Barcelona, and a pilot test to collect discrimination episodes experienced by racialized individuals.
