This is the chronicle of a peaceful revolution in the middle of a metropolitan suburb. During the last years of the Franco regime and the transition, Santa Coloma de Gramenet was a peripheral municipality overwhelmed by the migratory avalanche, lacking the most basic services and punished by speculation. Parishes, social centers, neighborhood commissions and neighborhood associations plotted a powerful vindictive movement that went from protest to proposal in 1978. The People’s Plan became the tool for transforming the suburb into a city worthy It was an alternative urban project, created in a pioneering participation process and coordinated by the architect Xavier Valls, with which residents and professionals demonstrated the capacity for change of the urban struggle.
